Anthr’potes is a monthly podcast led by Vicky Langlois and Laurence Alain that is all about anthropology, and more specifically, French-Canadian anthropology. The show’s goal is to democratize and demystify this misunderstood science while entertaining listeners with a light and casual atmosphere.

I was lucky enough to be the one to create the theme song for this amazing project. When Vicky approached me, she told me that she wanted an upbeat musical intro hat would immediately capture the audience’s attention. But she also had a special request: that I create a sound collage of field recordings that Laurence and her recorded in the streets of Quebec City, in which locals were giving all sorts of funny (and wrong) answers to this simple question: “What is anthropology?”

By using the funniest snippets from those field recordings, it ended up giving a humorous tone to the musical intro that perfectly fit the energetic yet laid back atmosphere that Vicky and Laurence were trying to create. On the musical side, I very much borrowed a lot of inspiration from nu-disco tracks, especially on the drums and percussion aspect. As always, everything was done inside Ableton Live. This project definitely was a lot of fun to work on!
